Judge Phillips Feb. 14 guest on Everyday Law

Lake County Circuit Judge John Phillips, who retired from the bench recently, will be the featured guest Thursday evening on "Everyday Law" on WRLR 98.3 FM, the radio show that demystifies the law for you and your family.

Robert Monahan, a Lake County attorney and host of the show, will interview Phillips. The show will air on WRLR at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14. Listeners can also hear the show on the "Everyday Law" podcast.

Phillips created three Lake County specialty courts - Drug Court, Mental Health Court and Veterans Court - when he was chief judge of the 19th Judicial Circuit. The specialty courts aim to reduce recidivism by rehabilitating offenders rather than simply locking them up.

The specialty court requirements are more stringent and taxing than ordinary probation programs.

Phillips, a Grayslake resident, announced his retirement last month after a career that included service in the U.S. Air Force, a term as an associate judge and then a circuit court judgeship.

Listeners who can't tune in Thursday night can find the "Everyday Law" podcast on iTunes or any podcatcher service or at www.monahanfirm.com for downloading.
