St. Viator's Balcerak breaks league records at MCAC meet

St. Viator finished seventh in Saturday's Metro Catholic Athletic Conference meet at Fenwick, getting a pair of all-conference individual finishers in the process.

Sophomore Michael Balcerak won both his individual races in record fashion.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Balcerak finished in 1:41.09, breaking both the meet and pool records. Balcerak's record erased the mark set the previous year by Loyola Chris Kearney, who placed second in 1:42.87.

In the 100 butterfly, Balcerak's time was 51.01, a meet record more than a second ahead of the mark established by Loyola's Andrew Jovanovic.

Lions junior Ben Peinsipp placed fourth in the 50 free in 22.69.

Balcerak and Peinsipp joined Michael Ruben and Dante Cerone on the 200 and 400 freestyle relays for sixth-place finishes. The 200 finished in 1:30.34, and the 400 in 3:21.03, both season-best efforts.
