Learn about bald eagle's return to the Kendall County region Feb. 20

Seeing bald eagles around Kendall County has become more common following a remarkable recovery nationwide. Eagles and their amazing story will be the focus of the upcoming program, "Bald Eagles: A Conservation Victory," at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Little White School Museum in Oswego.

The program is jointly sponsored by The Conservation Foundation, Oswegoland Heritage Association, and the Oswegoland Park District.

The program will be presented by Drew Becker, Fish and Wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Rock Island office. He provides assistance to landowners and government entities on regulations issued under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Becker will talk about why eagles became endangered in the first place, how the conservation community was able to achieve such a dramatic recovery, and what factors threaten the continued growth of eagle populations. He'll also talk about the legal aspects of protecting the birds, such as obtaining permits for potential work in the area of the birds.

Cost is $5 and advance reservations can be made by calling (630) 554-1010. The Little White School Museum is at 72 Polk St., Oswego, 60543.

The Conservation Foundation is one of the region's oldest and largest nonprofit land and watershed conservation organizations. Since it was founded in 1972, it has helped preserve nearly 33,000 acres of open space, restored and cleaned miles of rivers and streams, and educated thousands of kids by engaging them in nature and the outdoors.

Work is focused in DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will counties to preserve and restore nature in your neighborhood. Find out more at theconservationfoundation.org.
