Caulfield, Wheeling bounce Buffalo Grove in OT
Wheeling's Ryan Caulfield had a game to remember, and it came in a winning effort to boot.
The 6-foot-4 senior forward drained six 3s to go with five 2-point field goals and a 1-for-2 effort at the foul line to help the visiting Wildcats come away from Buffalo Grove with a 64-63 overtime victory in a Mid-Suburban East boys basketball matchup.
Caulfield hit a 15-foot jumper with 7 seconds left in OT for the decisive bucket. He finished with a career-best 29 points.
"Ryan Caulfield played really well tonight on both ends of the floor," said Wheeling coach Mike O'Keeffe. "Ryan made shots, played great defense, and rebounded well. I am really happy for Ryan and all of our kids because we made a lot of winning plays in the fourth quarter and overtime."
Caulfield, Jalen Dennis, Nick Janulis and Patrick Szpir each scored 2 points in the OT session, in which Wheeling outscored Buffalo Grove 8-7.
Dennis finished with 10 points for Wheeling (6-15, 2-6), and T.J. Best had 8.
Colin Calcagno led the way for Buffalo Grove (8-14, 2-6) with 22 points. Mac Camardo had 18 points, which included an 8-for-9 effort at the foul line, and Jack Vaselaney finished with 16. Both Calcagno and Vaselaney made a pair of 3s.
