Man accused of pulling knife on cabdriver in Elgin
Elgin police arrested a 29-year-old Crete man who they say pulled a knife on a cabdriver early Friday morning.
Nicholas Kaczmarski, of 500 block of Orchard Drive, was discovered by police after a search of the area. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Kaczmarski has been charged with armed robbery and will appear in Cook County bond court Saturday morning.
Officers arrived in the area of Briarwood and Corley Drive in Elgin at 3:26 a.m. and were met by the victim, a 23-year-old woman who said she picked up a man in a neighboring town who asked to be driven to an address on the 100 block of Briarwood Drive. When the cab arrived, the customer was unable to provide a specific address or pay the fare.
The driver told the customer she intended to call police. He then drew a knife and ordered the driver to leave the vehicle, but she refused, police said.
After stealing a grocery bag of receipts belonging to the driver, the customer ran away, police said.
The driver was not injured.
