Algonquin library named Club/Organization of the Year

February 4, 2016: A full house celebrated at the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Business Awards Dinner held at the Turnberry Country Club in Algonquin.

With awards given out in nine categories such as New Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Home Office of the Year, businesses and entrepreneurs alike were awarded for their dedication to excellence and service to their community.

But no organization was more thrilled than the Algonquin Area Public Library District, who won Club/Organization of the Year. It was the first time the library had been nominated in their category since the inception of the awards more than 15 years ago.

The process began when chamber members nominated 50 businesses and organizations for the awards at the Chamber mixer in June. Area residents and members of the business community cast their votes via social media. Approximately 1,000 votes were received during a Facebook campaign. With three finalists in six categories, the chamber issued a survey to find out what made these businesses special to the community. The library received the following comments

• A quality library is the key to vibrant, thriving community. AAPLD is a cornerstone of the community.

• I love the library. My kids love the library. What more can be said?

• Amazing community leader. They are open minded, offer programs for all ages, active in reaching out to us business owners and just bring valuable and quality programs to our community.

• Exceptional customer service. Always willing to help others.

• Simply the best library district in our area!

Assistant Director Sara Murray and Outreach Librarian Virginia Donahue were on hand to accept the award in person.

"The library is honored to receive this award, which is a reflection of our commitment to our partnerships with community organizations to provide the best services to our residents and local businesses," Murray said.

The Algonquin Area Public Library District has 23,049 cardholders and serves more than 40,000 residents in a 30-square-mile area, including Algonquin and portions of Lake in the Hills, Cary, and Barrington Hills. Visit www.aapld.org.
