Wauconda man charged after standoff with police

A 26-year-old Wauconda man will face charges for threatening his neighbors and smashing out the windows of his trailer during a standoff with police, authorities said.

Tyler Scatena, of the 400 block of Barrington Road, was charged Thursday with assault, disorderly conduct and obstructing justice, officials said. His bail and next court dates are unknown at this time.

Authorities said police went to Scatena's trailer at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday after neighbors reported he was causing a disturbance.

Scatena had locked himself inside the trailer before police arrived, authorities said. Officers tried to communicate with Scatena while he was inside the trailer, but he did not respond.

Authorities said nearby residents were asked to evacuate the area because of earlier reports that Scatena may have had a weapon. The Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group and the Illinois State Police SWAT teams were brought in to assist.

Scatena was taken into custody about 7:40 p.m.

No weapons were recovered by police.
