MWRD delivering safe water to Flint, Michigan

Commissioners and staff of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago are traveling to Flint, Michigan this weekend to distribute bottles of safe drinking water to residents of that city experiencing a water contamination crisis.

MWRD workers and officials partnered with the MWRD Credit Union to coordinate efforts to create a voluntary fund to purchase 36,000 bottles of water.

"MWRD understands the value of water and the importance of clean water in our daily lives," the agency stated in an announcement Wednesday. "Watching the situation develop in Flint, Michigan from afar, we were compelled to do something to let the people know they are not alone and that there are people who care and want to help in this time of crisis."

The MWRD is a special purpose government agency responsible for wastewater treatment and stormwater management in Cook County.
