Albright Theatre to hold auditions for 'Over the Tavern'

The Albright Theatre Company will hold auditions for "Over the Tavern" by Tom Dudzick at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, and Monday, Feb. 29.

The Albright Theatre is located on the third floor of the Batavia government building, 100 N. Island Ave. in Batavia.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Callbacks may be held on Tuesday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. by invitation only.

"Over the Tavern" is a warm and hilarious look at family, growing up and faith in the 1950s. Twelve-year-old Rudy Pazinski is a smart, wisecracking kid who is starting to question family rules and the Roman Catholic Church. Rudy goes up against the ruler-wielding Sister Clarissa and announces that instead of being confirmed he would rather shop around for a more "fun" religion.

"Over the Tavern" will be directed by Jeff Pripusich. Cara Schuster will serve as assistant director.

The cast includes: one man (40s to early 50s), two women (40s to early 60s), three boys (12 to 17) and one girl (15 to 17).

• Rudy: A bright and curious teenager with an active imagination, Rudy appears to be asking all the "wrong" questions - causing everyone loads of trouble. Age range 12 to 14.

• Chet: Head of the Pazinski household, hardworking and honest Chet is a physically and psychologically wounded man. Frustrated at trying to make ends meet, he often puts himself at a distance from the ones he loves. Age range late 40s to early 50s.

• Ellen: As the long-suffering wife of Chet, Ellen is the glue that struggles to hold her family together. Between Chet and the kids, she sure has her work cut out for her! Age range 40s to early 50s.

• Sister Clarissa: Like any good nun, she has a steady and strong hand for disciplining young soldiers for Christ, but she's also achingly human in her flaws and feelings. Age range 50s to 60s.

• Georgie: He may be cognitively disabled, but Georgie possesses a jubilant spirit and an enthusiasm for each of his family members. Be careful what you say around him, though. He's a little sponge who soaks up everything. Age range 13 to 15.

• Eddie: A rebellious teen trying to start his own life, Eddie is fixated on girls, dirty magazines and the impure thoughts that inevitably come with both. Age range 15 to 17.

• Annie: She is the oldest of the Pazinski children, but has no more figured out being a teenager than her brothers have. Annie struggles with coming-of-age curiosities and being damned-to-hell with her thoughts. Age range 15 to 17.

Performances will be April 22-24, 29-30, May 1, 6-7. It is rated PG.
