Candidate is not typical politician

We tend to think of a person running for elected office as a "politician," and from there it's a pretty short step to the cynical view of all politicians as self-serving at best. But now and then we see a candidate whom that label doesn't fit. Nancy Rodkin Rotering, candidate for U.S. Congress in the 10th District, is that kind of candidate.

I have known Nancy for several years - since long before she held any public office. I have seen where she came from and why she felt compelled to accept the challenge of running for elected office.

For Nancy, the issues come first. There are many concerns in our society she cares about deeply, and she has the skills to pursue real solutions.

Nancy's positions on the issues are sensible, sensitive and progressive without being extreme. She is a strong voice for common-sense measures to reduce gun violence, including background checks and closing the gun show loophole. She is a longtime advocate for accessibility to quality, affordable health care.

Nancy's intelligence, critical thinking, and focus on family and community are evident in all of her positions.

One of Nancy's strengths is her ability to get to the heart of an issue. She doesn't like to waste time, her own or anybody else's. She speaks plainly and directly and has proved herself unafraid to take on even the strongest of special interests.

These are qualities that will serve our district well in a Congress whose members are often too embroiled in partisan bickering to remember that they are there to serve the common good.
