Four suburban restaurants affected by credit card data breach

Those who may have dined at four suburban restaurants in 2014 and 2015 should be on the lookout for unauthorized charges due to a credit card data breach, officials said.

Landry's, a Houston-based operator of some 500 high-end and casual dining restaurants, has released a list of locations around the country that company officials believe may have been affected by the breach.

An internal investigation by a cybersecurity firm revealed hackers installed a program on payment processing devices that was designed to search for data from the magnetic stripe of credit cards, according to a news release.

That would include cardholder names, card numbers, expiration dates and internal verification codes.

The list of affected restaurants includes:

• Claim Jumper in Lombard, from May 5, 2015, to Dec. 3, 2015.

• Morton's in Schaumburg, from May 5, 2015, to Dec. 3, 2015.

• Rainforest Cafe at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, from May 8, 2015, to Dec. 3, 2015.

• McCormick & Schmick's in Oak Brook, from May 9, 2014, to March 14, 2015, and May 8, 2015, to Dec. 3, 2015.

Landry's says it has since implemented enhanced security measures, including end-to-end encryption, to prevent another breach.

The company is also contacting customers believed to have used cards at affected locations, if it has customers' mailing addresses or email addresses.
