Consulate General of India in Chicago Organized 67th Republic Day Celebration with Patriotic Fervor and Gaiety

Consulate General of India in Chicago organized the 67th Republic Day Celebration at its premises on Tuesday 26th January, 2016, at 9:45 AM, with traditional enthusiasm and gaiety. The venue was decorated with Indian flags, balloons, flowers, and Indian cultural symbols to reflect the festive atmosphere of this important occasion.

The Indian nationals, persons of Indian origin, and friends of India, including the who's who of Chicago, attended the festivities in huge numbers. Their patriotic fervor was evident from the fact that they braved the freezing cold, especially on the working weekday, to participate in the celebrations. The children, dressed in colorful costumes, added to the jubilant mood of the event.

Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, Consul General of India in Chicago hoisted the tricolor which was followed by singing of the National Anthem of India. Thereafter, he read out President Pranab Mukherjee's Republic Day Address to the Nation on the eve of 67th Republic Day of India.

"The Republic Day is celebrated on January 26th, as the Constitution came into force and India formally became a Republic on this day in 1950. He stated that these celebrations glorify the lofty ideals of Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, which are cherished by both India and the US", said Dr. Sayeed.

Dr. Sayeed stated that such flagship programs as "Make in India", "Skills India", "Swatch Bharat Abiyan", "Digital India", "Startup India", and "Green India" would give a big boost to the growth trajectory of India. He called upon the Indian-Americans to proactively participate in all the ambitious development-centric initiatives of the Government of India. "Concrete action on your part, rather than mere rhetoric, is the pressing need of the hour", he urged the Indian-Americans.

Dr. Sayeed and his wife, Farah Sayeed, were hospitality-, courtesy-, and humility-personified. Being the perfect hosts, they informally spoke with the members of Indian community to ascertain their welfare and assured them of their live interaction with them, as frequently as required.

Delicious refreshments, served at the event, were relished by all the attendees.

O P Meena, Consul (Community Welfare), welcomed the gathering and also proposed a vote of thanks.
