Glendale Heights man gets 20 years for sexually assaulting girl

A DuPage County judge has sentenced a Glendale Heights man to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a young girl he knew for about four years.

Charles Williams Jr., 40, pleaded guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault Wednesday.

Williams began sexually assaulting the girl when she was 9, and the assaults continued until she was about 13, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

In July 2014, the girl's mother asked her about a mark on her neck, and that led the girl to tell her mother about the assaults. The girl's mother immediately contacted the Glendale Heights Police Department, who took Williams into custody and charged him the next day, prosecutors said. He has been held at the DuPage County jail since then.

Williams will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, according to the news release.
