Explore 'Tales Behind Fairy Tales' with Liesl Shurtliff

The Arlington Heights Memorial Library continues its celebration of all things fairy tale by inviting you to an engaging presentation with author Liesl Shurtliff on February 25. Shurtliff, the author of Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin and Jack: The True Story of Jack and the Beanstalk, will speak about myths, fairy tales and legends, where they come from, how they change and what they mean to us today. Doors open with refreshments at 6:30 p.m. Liesl's presentation starts at 6:45 p.m. followed by a book signing at 7:30 p.m. Rump and Jack will both be available for purchase.

In advance of Shurtliff's author event, the library is hosting a tween writing workshop with the author.

Tween Writing Workshop with Author Liesl Shurtliff

Do you like to write? Do you love Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin and Jack: The True Story of Jack and the Beanstalk? Then you won't want to miss this program. Liesl Shurtliff, author of Rump and Jack will be leading a writing workshop just for fourth- to sixth-grade students. In this workshop, she will SHOW students why showing is so effective compared to telling. Highlights include Liesl standing on her head!

Shurtliff's visit is just one of many fairy-tale themed programs planned by the library through the end of March. Kids' World is abuzz with visitors exploring Once Upon a Time…Exploring the World of Fairy Tales, an interactive play exhibit for children ages 3 to 10 that runs through March 26. The exhibit is made possible by a gift from the Friends of the Library.
