Couples invited on Romantic Night Hike at Fullersburg Woods

Couples are invited to celebrate Valentine's Day with an evening under the stars at a Romantic Night Hike through Fullersburg Woods.

From 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, adults can take a self-guided hike on lantern-lit paths that meander through an oak forest, pausing on several scenic bridges to listen to the soothing sound of the rolling waters of Salt Creek. Hot chocolate and a cozy fire for roasting marshmallows will warm couples at the end of the trail.

"This special night hike is designed just for couples on Valentine's Day weekend," said Forest Preserve District Commissioner Jeff Redick. "Enjoy this rare opportunity to experience the beauty of the forest preserves at night."

Fullersburg Woods naturalist Keriann Dubina sees many visitors return year after year for this high-demand program.

"The program is one of Fullersburg Woods' most popular for adults," Dubina said. "The woods are often blanketed in snow, and our staff sets the scene for a romantic winter escape far from a mundane date night."

Romantic Night Hike walks leave from the Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, 3609 Spring Road, Oak Brook. Admission is $7.50 per person. Bring your own gear; a limited number of snowshoes will be available for rent for an additional $8 per person, provided there's enough snow on the trails. Register online at dupageforest.org or by calling (630) 850-8110.
