Preschoolers and seniors connect at Hawthorne

Hawthorne Early Childhood School students welcomed new friends to school from Belmont Village Senior Living Center Wednesday, Jan. 13.

The preschoolers sang songs for the seniors and showed off their classrooms, and the seniors read winter stories to the children and handed out stickers.

This is the first of five visits that the Belmont Village seniors will make to Hawthorne. The relationship forged between the students and seniors throughout the rest of the school year supports the students' growth in developing social skills and awareness of others outside of their family and school environments, while the seniors are able to interact with and give back to their community.

"Our students were very excited to have these special visitors come to Hawthorne and we appreciate this opportunity to connect our students with members of our community," said Patty Puetz, principal of Hawthorne.
