Two men charged in Round Lake-area shootings

Two men face charges in connection with a pair of shootings in the Round Lake area, officials said Friday.

Federico Salazar, 21, of the 500 block of Arbor Drive in Round Lake Park, and Joel S. Campa, 21, of the 100 block of Antares Circle in Round Lake, were charged with three counts of reckless discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after the shootings early Thursday morning, authorities said.

Police said witnesses reported several shots fired at 6:03 a.m. in the 900 block of Bonnie Brook Lane in Round Lake Beach, and another shot fired in the 100 block of Antares about five minutes later.

Witnesses gave police a description of a vehicle involved in the shootings, authorities said. That vehicle was found parked in front of Campa's house the 100 block of Antares Circle in Round Lake.

Round Lake schools in the area of the shootings were placed on temporary soft lockdown while the suspects were at large. Round Lake Police Chief Michael Gillette said the lockdown was in place after the arrests were made for precautionary reasons.

No one was injured in either shooting, officials said.

Authorities said a .45-caliber "1911" pistol and multiple spent shell casings were found inside the vehicle.

Salazar, Campa and a juvenile were questioned in the investigation, authorities said. Officials determined the juvenile was not involved and was not charged.

Salazar and Campa appeared in bond court Friday, authorities said. Campa was ordered held in Lake County jail in lieu of $30,000 bail, while Salazar was ordered held on $25,000 bail, authorities said.

Both are due back in court Jan. 26.
