Gurnee police investigate road-rage shooting

Gurnee police say they are investigating what appears to be a road-rage shooting involving occupants of two vehicles Thursday.

Deputy Police Chief Willie Meyer said the gunshots were fired in the intersection of Washington Street and Greenleaf Avenue, just west of Route 41. Meyer said an Illinois secretary of state police officer witnessed the shooting and summoned Gurnee authorities at 1:07 p.m.

The occupants of both vehicles were captured and in Gurnee police custody Thursday afternoon, he said. No one was injured.

"We're still sorting it out, but it sounds like it was a road-rage incident where shots were fired between the two vehicles," Meyer said.

Investigators recovered several shell casings from the intersection, which was closed about 1½ hours for evidence work, he said.

One vehicle was stopped by Gurnee police and the other by a Waukegan patrol officer, Meyer said.
