No one hurt when machine explodes at Wheeling factory

A machine inside an industrial building in Wheeling exploded Thursday afternoon, firefighters say, but nobody was injured.

Firefighters were called at 3 p.m. to Tomoegawa, 740 Glenn Ave., for an explosion and fire within the building.

The blaze remained contained to the machine, which involved manufacturing toner for printers, Wheeling Battalion Chief Mark Menzel said.

"We're not sure why the machine exploded," he said. "We put it out within 10 minutes and remained on the scene for an hour or so doing smoke removal and overhaul."
