Tom Cullerton stands up for area seniors

GLENDALE HEIGHTS- State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) stopped by the Glendale Heights Center for Seniors to call bingo numbers at their weekly bingo game.

"The Glendale Heights Center for Seniors provides valuable resources, such as social activities like friendly bingo games and Meals on Wheels," Cullerton said.

The Glendale Heights Center for Seniors has had to cut their Meals on Wheels service from five days and seven meals a week to two days and two meals a week. They are currently working with community partners to continue the on-site community dining program that was forcefully cut due to lack of funding from the governor's office.

"Vital organizations in our communities are looking for answers," said Cullerton. "My hope is the governor will work with us to deliver a responsible solution and reinstate funding to provide seniors with the necessary resources to live independent lives."

Cullerton has signed on to legislation that would fund $11 million to the Meals on Wheels program. This would provide level funding comparable to last year to restart services and allow the DuPage Meals on Wheels program to operate at previous service levels.

The Glendale Heights Center for Seniors is located at 260 Civic Center Plaza, Glendale Heights, IL.

The senior center hosts bingo games every Wednesday (except for holidays) from 10 a.m. to noon. Please call 630-260-6050 for more information.
