Music notes: Black Sabbath taking a bow at the United Center

After nearly five decades making music, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler are writing the final chapter of the Black Sabbath story as they embark on their #8220;The End#8221; tour, visiting Chicago's United Center Friday, Jan. 22, for the first of two local shows. (Their second trip through town puts them at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in September.) California rock band Rival Sons opens the night of hard rock and spectacle. 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at the United Center, 1901 W. Madison St., Chicago. Tickets start at $35. (312) 455-4500 or unitedcenter.com.

Imaginative breed

The suburbs are a breeding ground of talent, a fact to which The Roalde Dahls can attest. Three friends who took on the challenge of making standout electronic-based music, the Dahls channel a calming energy with their unique build of rock, one that's emotional without being saccharin and energetic without being overwhelming. They headline a gathering of like-minded experimental musicians #8212; Dream Council, Blue Cloud and Arrange for Use #8212; at Quencher's Saloon. 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Quencher's Saloon, 2401 N. Western Ave., Chicago. $5. (773) 276-9730 or quenchers.com.

7 Minutes in Berwyn

Pop-punk rock band 7 Minutes in Heaven already has some national touring cred under its belt, but this weekend the trio is hanging in the suburbs with Marina City, a pop-rock band with ties to the far west suburban scene. The pairing is inspired, with 7MIH sporting upbeat, catchy hooks and singalong lyrics, and Marina City skating along the sharp edge between stylish, melodic pop and driving punk rock. Virginia rockers Broadside, Berwyn's Aiming for Average and Chicago's Belmont join the pair for the all-ages show. 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at Wire, 6815 W. Roosevelt Road, Berwyn. $10-$12. (708) 669-9473 or wireismusic.com.
