Trader Joe's recalls raw cashew pieces due to Salmonella concerns

Trader Joe's has issued a recall of its raw cashew pieces because of Salmonella concerns.

The recall affects Trader Joe's Raw Cashew Pieces sold in 16-ounce non-resealable bags (bar code number 00505154) with a best before code of 07.17.2016TF4, according to the grocery store's website.

The product was distributed to Trader Joe's stores in Illinois as well as a number of other states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin.

"Out of an abundance of caution, all lots of Trader Joe's Raw Cashew Pieces have been removed from store shelves and their sale has been suspended while the case is investigated," according to the website.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

Trader Joe's encourages shoppers to discard the product or to return it to any Trader Joe's for a refund. "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience," the company said.
