Tree of Life UU Congregation will be the 'Church of Jazz' on Sunday

On Sunday, Jan. 24, the Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry, will present the "Church of Jazz: Duke Ellington" at the regular 10:45 a.m. service.

Chicago jazz vocalist Terry Sullivan and bassist Richard Armandi will join the Rev. Sean Parker Dennison in a service featuring the music of one of America's greatest musicians, Duke Ellington. The service also will include stories and readings, all centering around the life and music of "The Duke."

The music will include Ellington classics such as "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," "Mood Indigo", and "Take the 'A' Train."

The service is the first of an innovative worship series that will feature music as spiritual inspiration and a window to the soul. Upcoming services will include the Church of Folk featuring Joe Jencks on Feb. 28, the Church of Vivaldi on April 3, and the Church of Rock on May 1. Each service will include performances by top professional musicians.
