Teen shot in Elgin gun crime expected to live

Elgin police are looking into the Sunday morning shooting of a 15-year-old boy.

Police said the victim arrived at Presence Saint Joseph's Hospital with a gunshot wound.

At 1:06 a.m., police responded, learning when they arrived at the hospital that the victim had been walking in the area of Oak and Orchard streets when he was confronted by an unknown assailant, who shot him.

Police said family members drove the victim to the hospital, where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Gang Crimes Unit at (847) 289-2646.
