Oakbrook Second Graders Tour Wood Dale City Hall

On Wednesday, January 13, eighteen 2nd grade students from six classes visited Wood Dale City Hall for a tour of the facility to extend their learning about communities and government. Mayor Pulice, police officers and city hall staff served a guides as students toured police headquarters, the city clerk's offices, the mayor's office and city council meeting rooms. While touring, some students acted as photographers using their iPads, and others served as reporters taking notes to document what they saw. Several highlights of the tour were seeing the police fingerprinting, photo area and holding areas, sitting in the city council's "big" chairs and trying to find students' homes and schools on the large maps in the clerk's offices. After, the students worked in teams to create presentations on their iPads to describe their experience for each of their classes. "Our tour was a rich, hands-on experience for these students. We are truly grateful to Mayor Pulice and the staff at City Hall for their hospitality," said Sandy Smolenski, SEM Consultant at Oakbrook Elementary School.
