Trains moving in and out of Union Station after delay

Trains started moving to and from Chicago's Union Station around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday after a half-hour where no trains could arrive or leave due to signaling problems on Amtrak. All Metra trains were moving again, but with up to a 45 minute delay, said Spokesman Michael Gillis.

Amtrak's signaling system went down shortly before 5 p.m. and trains on Metra's Milwaukee District West, Milwaukee District North , North Central, BNSF, Heritage, Rock Island and Southwest lines were all halted.

Commuters were advised to stay away from Union Station because of overcrowding during the signaling issues, but Metra's website shows trains are now departing

Gillis said Amtrack's system came back online and they were able to get trains moving again about 30 minutes later.
