Aurora man admits to DUI crash that injured four, faces prison

A 41-year-old man faces up to six years in prison after pleading guilty Friday to causing a DUI crash that injured four people, including three children, in March 2014, according to Kane County court records.

Roy R. Lightfoot, of the 500 block of Hammond Avenue, Aurora, had been held at the Kane County jail since the crash that injured a 37-year-old Montgomery woman, and her three children, ages 7 through 11.

Lightfoot pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm and driving while his license was revoked or suspended, both felonies, in exchange for other less serious charges being dismissed, records show.

Police said Lightfoot caused two crashes while driving his 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood through town the night of March 10, 2014.

In the first crash, Lightfoot was headed east on Illinois Avenue when he rear ended a Chevy S-10 that was stopped at a traffic signal on Route 31, police said. Lightfoot then drove through the red light on to the Illinois Avenue bridge, where his car jumped a concrete median and collided head-on with a 2009 Chevy Aveo. Police said injuries were serious but not life threatening, and the four people plus Lightfoot were taken to area hospitals.

Lightfoot, who has previous arrests on charges of driving while his license was suspended, possession of alcohol at a park and theft, will be sentenced March 2.

Under state law, he must serve 85 percent of any sentence he receives. Lightfoot will get credit for nearly two years served toward any sentence.
