Bloomingdale police: Woman shot to death was collecting belongings

Bloomingdale police were no strangers to the home on the 300 block of Norton Lane where two people were found shot to death Friday night in an apparent murder-suicide.

In fact, Chief Frank Giammarese said officers had visited the house in the past few weeks in response to a domestic dispute between 55-year-old Daniel Kudrna and his wife, Catherine Lee Kudrna, 54. The couple were in the midst of a divorce, he said.

The investigation is still active, but police believe Daniel Kudrna shot his wife multiple times in the home's garage. She had been living at an extended stay hotel in the area.

Giammarese said it appears Catherine had returned to the home to pick up some belongings when she was shot.

Giammarese said police believe Daniel Kudrna entered the home after shooting Catherine and then shot himself in the head just before 5 p.m. Friday.

Part of the investigation is centering around how or where Daniel Kudrna got the gun, because Giammarese said his FOID card previously was revoked for an undisclosed reason.

"This is a tragic case of a domestic situation that went way, way too far," Giammarese said. "And the end result was very difficult and unfortunate."
