Beach Park father and son charged after Schaumburg man's overdose

Two Beach Park men have been charged after they dumped off the body of a friend who overdosed Sunday, authorities said Monday evening.

Lake County officers were called at 7:10 a.m. Sunday for a report of a person slumped over in a vehicle at North Wilson Avenue and West Edgewood Road in Beach Park, police said in a news release.

Officers found Russell Eilrich, 21, of Schaumburg dead in the vehicle.

Police determined Eilrich had previously been at a friend's home about a block away on the 37900 block of North Loyola Avenue.

That friend, Mason Spencer, 21, is believed to have purchased drugs for the two on Saturday and Sunday, police said.

Eilrich began to overdose early Sunday morning. Police say Spencer and his father, James Spencer, 47, put Eilrich in his vehicle and drove it a block away and left him there.

An autopsy Monday morning found a combination of drugs in his system.

Mason Spencer was charged with involuntary manslaughter, concealment of a death, obstructing justice, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of ammunition without a FOID card.

James Spencer was charged with involuntary manslaughter, concealment of a death, obstructing justice and possession of ammunition without a FOID card.

Both Spencers remain in Lake County jail. They're expected in bond court at 9 a.m. today.
