Celebrate life and times of legendary coach Vince Lombardi Jan. 23

The Elgin Community College Arts Center presents "Vince: The Life and Times of Vince Lombardi" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, in the Blizzard Theatre, located in Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive.

Written and performed by John Pinero, "Vince: The Life and Times of Vince Lombardi" is an inspiring one-man play that tells the life story of legendary football coach, Vince Lombardi. Head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 1959 to 1967, Lombardi led the team to five NFL championships and to win the first two Super Bowls. The Super Bowl trophy is named after Lombardi. From his Super Bowl championships to Lombardi's relationships with his family and players, "Vince" immerses audiences in the story and spirit of one of the greatest professional coaches in football history. Pinero's magnetic portrayal of Lombardi has been praised by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, and former Lombardi players.

"Vince" will be performed at the ECC Arts Center two weeks before Super Bowl 50. Steve Duchrow, director of performing arts, says that the timing was so right for this play that he couldn't pass it up.

"There might not be a Super Bowl 50 to celebrate without the united, historic contributions of George Halas, Vince Lombardi, The Chicago Bears, and The Green Bay Packers," he says. "They were titans at the forge hammering together the history that formed what we know today as professional football. This show unveils one of the key stories in this history. It allows every armchair quarterback to rise up and cheer, regardless of the team they root for on Sundays. I like to think that George Halas and Tom Landry would love how John faithfully portrays the spirit of their friend and colleague, Vince Lombardi."

Tickets to "Vince: The Life and Times of Vince Lombardi" are $32 to $45. A preshow tailgate party prepared by ECC's award-winning Culinary Arts and Hospitality program is available for an additional $15. The deadline for the tailgate party reservations is Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Tickets for all performances in the ECC Arts Center are available online at tickets.elgin.edu or at the ECC Arts Center box office. Box office hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To purchase tickets by phone, call (847) 622-0300. All major credit cards are accepted.
