St. Charles North student to Earn Eagle Scout award Jan. 24

Cameron Neville of South Elgin will be celebrating earning the rank of Eagle Scout with fellow members of Troop 13 at his court of honor on Sunday, Jan. 24, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles.

Cameron's Eagle Project was dedicated to Haines Middle School in St. Charles, which he attended. He noticed that the courtyard needed landscaping and picnic tables for the students and staff to use for outdoor studies.

Cameron sat down with Mrs. McKnight, the assistant principal from Haines Middle School, and came up with a plan for the courtyard. The plan was to have planting beds around specific areas of the courtyard as well as constructing three picnic tables to be placed around the courtyard in different locations. With the help of 25 fellow Scouts and 14 adult leaders they completed his project over a Saturday and Sunday, in the month of May.

Cameron has earned 41 merit badges as well as the Boy Scouts of America National Honor patrol award in 2012 and 2014. He has also earned the National Outdoors Award-Camping award and the Boy Scouts of America scuba award. He is a past den chief, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader. Cameron is an active brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow. He has attended Gerber Scout camp five times and Glacier National park for high adventure. He attends St. Charles North High School where he plays the trumpet in wind symphony and the marching band.
