New mattress store to open in Algonquin Galleria

No, it's not a Portillo's.

Many of you have been emailing to ask about the new building going up in the Galleria in Algonquin, near Famous Dave's and Golden Corral, and hoping that it was going to be your favorite hot dog, Italian beef and chocolate cake spot.

For now, you'll need to continue driving south along Randall Road if you're craving Portillo's - in Batavia at 531 N. Randall and in Elgin at 1020 S. Randall Road.

The new building along Randall in Algonquin near the Galleria actually will be home to a mattress store - Sleep Number.

Sleep Number presently has a spot along Randall in Algonquin inside the Algonquin Commons shopping center. However, this will be a completely new 4,000-square-foot building that is expected to open this spring, said Katie Parkhurst, senior planner for the village of Algonquin.

"Sleep Number is expanding their product line and needed a larger space," Parkhurst said.

If you are craving a new spot for beef and hot dogs, though, there will be one open later this year in Algonquin. Buona Restaurant, also known as Buona Beef, will be going up on the east side of Randall, near the Buffalo Wild Wings.

The Algonquin village board approved the project in October, and it should be under construction in 2016, Parkhurst said.

There is a Buona Beef now in St. Charles at 2425 W. Main St., just off Randall Road.

Give and get

As you're cleaning out your wardrobe for the New Year, you might want to think twice before you toss that bra.

From now through Feb. 3, the Soma Boutique along Randall Road in Geneva is accepting any new or gently worn bras. The donations will be used to help women impacted by domestic violence.

While you are there making your donations in the Geneva Commons store, 1432 Commons Drive, you can also get a free expert bra fitting. The sizing only takes a few seconds, the bra experts say.

If you end up shopping for new bras while you are donating at the store, the Geneva location is offering a free tote bag with any $100 purchase in the store.

The donated bras will be given to women at domestic violence shelters in the area that are affiliated with the National Network to End Domestic Violence.

The bra donation project began five years ago when the folks at Soma heard that bras were the most needed, but least donated, item for women in need. To date, Soma Boutique stores through the nation have collected about one million bras.

The Geneva store also will accept monetary donations for the bra project.

For information, call the store at (630) 463-9075.
