$100 to brighten lives of 2 boys without mom

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Jennifer Shanahan of Glen Ellyn.

Here is an excerpt of her story:

"My best friend, a divorced mom, died of ovarian cancer, leaving her two sons who were 15 and 16 years old in high school in the custody of friends. Throughout the past six years the boys have struggled with custody/legal problems, selling their family home, giving away their dog, medical issues and most importantly, moving out of the close-knit community they grew up in.

"I've tried to support them as much as possible while they both face the challenge of becoming independent. I'd love to split this money between them so they buy something they want or need."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
