Authorities: Juveniles take man's pants, cellphone

Two juveniles face a felony charge for allegedly robbing a 19-year-old man at gunpoint and taking his cellphone and his pants, authorities said Wednesday.

Lake County sheriff's deputies were called to the 11200 block of west Edgewood Road in Beach Park at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday for the reported armed robbery. When deputies arrived, they found the victim was not injured.

Further investigation revealed the victim was acquainted with one of the juvenile offenders. The victim had a prearranged meeting scheduled with his acquaintance. When the victim arrived, he was robbed at gunpoint of his cellphone and the designer jeans he was wearing, authorities said in a news release. Both offenders fled after the robbery.

“They wanted them (pants) because they were designer and decided to take them in addition to the phone,” Detective Christopher Covelli said.

Sheriff's deputies and detectives positively identified both juvenile offenders, who were arrested without incident. The firearm used in the robbery was recovered and it was determined to be a replica, not an actual functioning firearm.

Sheriff's detectives have submitted a juvenile delinquent referral/petition for both juveniles on the charge of aggravated robbery. Both juveniles are held at the Lake County Hulse Juvenile Detention Center near Vernon Hills pending a juvenile detention hearing.
