Global warming is real

I would like to respond to the letter from W. Brand Bobosky (Dec. 14) regarding his support of the so-called "Lack of Proof of Climate Change."

I am wondering if he realizes that 200 countries just met in Paris to discuss what mankind can do to save the planet from the catastrophic effects of global warming, such as whole island nations and most coastal cities being submerged by rising seas, thousands of people dying from heat waves, devastating droughts and forest fires and people worldwide fighting over lack of food and water.

Mr. Bobosky needs to understand that 97% of climate scientists have agreed that there is human caused global warming.

In science this is known as a consensus.

I was confused about Mr. Bobosky's statement that the nuns during his school years told him that we were nearing the end of the last Ice Age.

Was he implying that the earth is warming naturally?

Actually, the sun's output has been dropping for the past 30 years. So the earth should be getting cooler. But it is getting warmer primarily due to carbon dioxide emissions caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

I would recommend that Mr. Bobosky read the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report. In this report, he would find the answers to many climate change-related questions including the percentage of global warming caused by CO2.

I'm disturbed that there are still people who are denying climate change. We need to educate ourselves and act rapidly if we want a habitable earth for our descendants.
