COD trustees need access to documents

As former chairpersons of the College of DuPage Board of Trustees, we would like to address issues regarding trustee access to college documents, particularly legal invoices.

We collectively served a total of 24 years as COD trustees, eight years as Chairperson of the Board. During our service we were always allowed access to, and we always granted trustee access to, any and all college documents.

The notion that trustees cannot have free access to college documents, particularly legal invoices, is not consistent with our experience. The college's attorneys represent the board of trustees. Trustees must approve the attorneys' services and invoices. Ready access to this information is essential to a trustee performing their responsibilities as trustee.
