Iroquois School PE program wins state award

Iroquois Community School, Des Plaines, physical education teachers Anne Berenak and William Snyder, along with principal Michael Amadei, were recently honored by the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD) with a Physical Education Blue Ribbon Award, a voluntary program to recognize excellent physical education and health programs. Areas of focus include curriculum, instruction, enrichment, facilities, equipment, finance, administration, medical and safety.

• Eric Meschewski of Schaumburg has joined Engineering Enterprises as a Senior Project Engineer I. Meschewski, who has more than six years of construction experience, is a 2009 graduate of Purdue University and a 2013 graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, with a master's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis. He will be working primarily on municipal infrastructure projects.

• Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Rachel C. Hugg has reported for duty as a linguist with Navy Information Operations Command Georgia, Fort Gordon, Georgia. Hugg is the daughter of Michelle A. Hauschild of Lake In The Hills and Eric M. Hugg of Palatine. She is a 2013 graduate of Fremd High School, Palatine.

• U.S. Army National Guard Pvt. Johny Carvajal graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. During the nine weeks of training, Carvajal studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, weapons, chemical warfare, marksmanship, field tactics and more. Carvajal, the son of Rosalino and Silvia Carvajal of Wheeling, is a 2015 graduate of Wheeling High School.
