Libertyville kindergartners treated to 'The Polar Express'

With the craftsmanship of a master storyteller, Libertyville Elementary District 70 Superintendent Guy Schumacher read "The Polar Express" to kindergartners at Butterfield School in Libertyville.

Kids from all three classes sat wide-eyed Wednesday as they listened to the story of a boy's journey to the North Pole.

"I love doing it. It means a lot," Schumacher said. "It's special to them, but it's even more special to me."

Reading "The Polar Express" to kindergartners has been a tradition for Schumacher as long as he has been District 70's superintendent.

"One of my favorite things to do in the job is to get out there and make a connection with the children," he said.

Schumacher read the book to Rockland School students Tuesday and will read to children at Adler and Copeland schools Friday.
