Jacksonville State beats Charleston Southern 58-38

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Troymaine Pope and Eli Jenkins had three touchdowns each and top-seeded Jacksonville State beat No. 8 seed Charleston Southern 58-38 in the Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinals on Friday night.

Pope carried 16 times for 250 yards with scoring runs of 76, 44 and 54 yards. Jenkins kept it 21 times for 195 yards and two scores and threw a 14-yard TD pass to Dalton Screws.

The Gamecocks (11-1) never trailed and broke their own Ohio Valley Conference record from 2013 for points scored in an FCS playoff.

Jenkins broke free around the right side for an 83-yard TD run to make it 34-17 before the end of the third quarter.

Charleston Southern (10-2) bounced back with touchdowns to get within 10 three times in the fourth quarter.

Connor Rouleau's 38-yard field goal at 3:48 and Pope's 54-yard score at 2:16 clinched it for the Gamecocks, who await the Sam Houston State-Colgate winner on Saturday.
