Wheeling school board member to lead state association

Phil Pritzker, an elected member of the Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 school board, in November was unanimously elected president of the Illinois Association of School Boards, the statewide organization representing 6,000 board members and 843 member school districts. Pritzker has served as IASB's vice president for the past two years, and following his two-year term as president, will serve as the organization's immediate past president. He has been active in the North Cook division of IASB for nearly two decades, most recently serving as its director. In District 21, Pritzker was appointed to the board of education in July of 1989, and has been re-elected seven times, making him the longest-serving board member in district history.

• The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund has recognized retiree Domingo Mata for his volunteer work. Mata, a retiree of Elk Grove Township District 59, along with his wife, Blanca, have volunteered at the FISH Food Pantry in Carpentersville for more than 20 years. FISH provides assistance to local families or individuals in need, including lower income citizens and those affected by layoffs and unemployment. Mata was one of seven people nominated for recognition as part of the Year of the Volunteer contest, which spotlights volunteerism within IMRF's membership.

• Christopher Williams has joined the Securities Law Practice Group at Lavelle Law, Ltd., in Palatine. Williams previously was an examiner with the Department of Trading and Financial Compliance Examinations at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority in Chicago. He also previously was an investigator in the Department of Equity and Trading Regulation at the Chicago Board Options Exchange. A graduate of Marquette University and the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, Williams expects to work closely with corporate clients who undergo regulatory review.

• Lisa Sibik, manager of Elk Grove Park District's Pirates' Cove Children's Theme Park, has been honored by the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association with the Facility Manager of the Year Award. Sibik, who has worked for the Elk Grove Park District for 18 years, was nominated by her supervisor and peers for her outstanding efforts in her position at Pirates' Cove. The IPRA, which recognized Sibik's management achievements including helping to groom hundreds of young employees, recognizes only one facility manager per year throughout the state of Illinois for this prestigious award.

• The Resource Renewal Project, a stewardship initiative designed to help financially strengthen nonprofit organizations, has honored Roberta Nicholas, communications coordinator at St. Raymond de Penafort Parish, Mount Prospect, with the Brother Thomas Minta, CSC Leadership Award. The award is in honor of Brother Tom, a member of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, who served as a business manager for several parishes and provided compassion, faith, good humor and prudence. Nicholas has shown extraordinary support of St. Raymond and of the local Catholic community, while exemplifying compassion and leadership. The Resource Renewal Project's Resource Renewal Awards go to recipients who embody compassion and leadership within the Catholic community.
