Beach Park woman dies after being struck in Abbott parking lot

A Beach Park woman was fatally struck by a Jeep near North Chicago late Monday night.

Simone E. Gibson, 49, was hit by a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee as she was walking in a parking lot at Abbott Laboratories on the 100 block of Abbott Park Road. The Jeep had just pulled out of a parking spot and was moving forward when it hit Gibson, and she was pinned under the vehicle, Lake County sheriff's police said.

Gibson worked at AbbVie, a biopharmaceutical company located there, and was headed to her car after a shift at work, police said.

Firefighters freed Gibson from beneath the car and she was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, but she couldn't be saved, authorities said.

An autopsy conducted Monday revealed Gibson suffered multiple injuries, the Lake County coroner's office said.

The Lake County sheriff's crash investigation unit is looking into the accident. No charges have been filed.
