80-year-old Elk Grove Village man charged with sex abuse

An 80-year-old Elk Grove Village man was ordered held on $500,000 bail Tuesday on charges he sexually abused a 6-year-old boy.

Dominick Amanti faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, a non-probationable class X felony, said Cook County assistant state's attorney David Shin.

Prosecutors say Amanti, who has no criminal background, abused the boy two times between Oct. 31 and Nov. 5 of this year. The boy gave a statement to the Children's Advocacy Center in Hoffman Estates detailing the abuse, Shin said.

Cook County judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Amanti have no contact with the boy or with anyone under age 18, Shin said. Amanti next appears in court on Dec. 30.
