Ex-East Aurora High School employee had sex with student at school, cops say

A former East Aurora High School truancy worker had sex with a student he's accused of assaulting at his school office three times a week and in his basement of his home, according to a police affidavit used to obtain a search warrant.

Jose B. Corona, 32, of the 1300 block of South Glen Circle, Aurora, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Corona, a former truancy liaison for the high school, was charged last month with sexual assault of the 17-year-old student.

Aurora police obtained a search warrant for any and all "portable communications devices" at Corona's home, along with sheets, pillowcases and other bedding items from his basement, according to Kane County court records.

Corona's accuser told police she had "inappropriate text conversations about sex" with Corona, according to a police affidavit included in court records.

The girl told police in a Nov. 12 interview that she met Corona in the beginning of the school year and believed he was a dean. Corona asked her to come to his office, got her number and they had sex in his office the next day, the affidavit read.

"(The victim) disclosed that Mr. Corona had sex with her approximately three times a week until he was suspended from his job," the police affidavit read. "(The victim) disclosed on one occasion, being a Thursday sometime after Halloween, Mr. Corona picked her up from her home and took her back to his house."

Corona is still being held at the Kane County jail on $40,000 bail, meaning he must post $4,000 to be released while the charges are pending.

Corona succcessfully argued to Judge Clint Hull to have his to have his bail reduced from $100,000, in part because he has a wife and two children, has never been arrested and has been a member of the National Guard for four years, according to court records.

Corona is due in court again on Jan. 13. If convicted, he also must register as a sex offender. He resigned from his position, which he had held since August, a day before his arrest.
