17-year-old Elgin resident held in shooting

A 17-year-old Elgin resident has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with a shooting Thanksgiving night on the 800 block of East Chicago Street.

The male suspect, who is being held as a juvenile, also was charged with not having a FOID card.

Police said they responded at 8 p.m. Thursday to find a male victim with what appeared to be nonlife-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.

Gang crimes detectives took the 17-year-old into custody. He was scheduled to be taken Friday to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.
