Building uninhabitable after fire in Naperville
A Naperville home was damaged Friday night by a fire in the second-floor laundry room, official said.
There were no injuries to residents or firefighters, and a family cat was rescued, firefighters said.
Firefighters a 911 call was received at 6:08 p.m. Friday from a homeowner on the 200 block of East Fourth Avenue reporting an appliance on fire on the second floor.
Firefighters arriving on the scene reported heavy smoke, and the initial alarm was upgraded to a general alarm.
All occupants were safely evacuated, and after securing a water source and pulling a hose line into the building, the fire, which was found in a laundry room on the second floor, was extinguished within 19 minutes after the first companies arrived.
An inspector from Naperville's Transportation, Engineering and Development deemed the unit uninhabitable.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The Plainfield, Lisle-Woodridge, and Downers Grove Fire Departments provided coverage for Naperville fire stations.
