Mississippi River bridge at St. Louis to reopen next month

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A key St. Louis bridge across the Mississippi River is scheduled to reopen next month after being closed for upgrades since the summer.

The Illinois Department of Transportation's Lora Rensing tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1Oqi7aP) that the Martin Luther King Bridge again will accommodate traffic sometime during the week of Dec. 21.

Used by nearly 27,000 drivers each day, the span linking Missouri and Illinois has been closed since July 20.

The $15.9 million construction project on the bridge included removing its deck, replacing the middle truss span, making structural steel repairs and painting.
