Teen charged in Villa Park shooting

A Villa Park teen faces criminal charges in connection with a shooting in Villa Park that left two men injured.

Bruce Berrier, 16, of the 900 block of West North Avenue, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. He was being held Wednesday on $1 million bail.

Villa Park police say they responded at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday to a report of gunshots on the 900 block of West North Avenue. When they arrived, they found two men - ages 21 and 19 - with nonlife threatening gunshot wounds near the rear parking area of a townhouse complex.

Prosecutors said one victim had been shot once in the leg and the other had been shot twice in the leg and once in the abdomen. Both victims were removed from the scene for medical treatment, officials said.

According to prosecutors, Berrien fired his weapon several times following a brief altercation with the two men and fled to his nearby apartment, where he was arrested a short time later.

"Thankfully the victims' wounds do not appear to be life threatening and both are expected to make a full recovery," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement after the bond hearing.

Berrier's next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 21 in front of Judge Brian Telander.
