Catholic Consortium students celebrate veterans

Children at the Catholic Consortium of Lake County at St. Mary of the Annunciation Elementary School in Mundelein and Transfiguration Catholic Elementary School and Frassati Catholic Academy in Wauconda had the opportunity to learn, meet and hear about veteran experiences on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at school assemblies in honor of Veterans Day.

At St. Mary in Mundelein, Tammy Kleckner, principal of the consortium, led an assembly in honor of those who have served and are currently serving the United States. She was accompanied by a few third- to fifth-grade students who shared their knowledge of the special day as well.

At the Transfiguration and Frassati assembly, Mayor Frank Bart came suited up, along with three other local veterans. The gentlemen presented their personal experiences, told the students a bit about the history of Veterans Day and its importance, and led a question-and-answer session.

In the classrooms across the consortium, students participated in a variety of Veterans Day activities. Students learned, created and shared their own experiences with veterans, knowledge of the celebration and enthusiasm and appreciation for those who have served.

Some of the projects completed included red, white and blue hearts, letters of thanks and posters of appreciation.
