Gia Mia restaurant to open location in Geneva

The site of the former Great Harvest Bread Co. store in downtown Geneva will soon host a restaurant run by the same people who own Fire+Wine in Glen Ellyn and Gia Mia Pizza Bar in Wheaton.

Gia Mia Geneva expects to open Feb. 1, owner and chef Brian Goewey told Geneva aldermen Monday night.

The aldermen, meeting as a committee, tentatively approved granting a liquor license to the restaurant.

Goewey and his family have lived in Geneva for nine years. “It's (Gia Mia Geneva) just a fun project bringing it home,” he said.

He said the restaurant at 13 N. Third St. will feature brick oven baked pizzas and “small plate” dishes and pasta meals. They will feature farm-to-table ingredients.

The owners have already begun remodeling the space. They also catered the holiday open house last week at the Artemisia boutique on South Third Street.

Great Harvest operated in the space for nearly 20 years. It closed in February 2014.
