Kirk Players to perform 'The Velveteen Rabbit'

Don't miss Kirk Players' version of "The Velveteen Rabbit," the holiday story written by Scott Davidson and based on Margery Williams children's book.

The show opens Saturday, Dec. 5, with performances at 1 and 3 p.m. at Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church, 1500 W. Hawley in Mundelein.

Additional matinees will be presented 1 and 3 p.m. Sundays, Dec. 6 and 13, and Saturday, Dec. 12.

The story centers on a young girl who receives a velveteen rabbit for Christmas and the magical relationship that grows between them through joyful and sad times.

"It's a story about the wonder of life, the wonder that life goes on and the reasons to stay positive about what life can bring to us," said Kirk Players Director Patrick Blake, who is directing the show for the second year.

"I can't help admitting I have grown with the show and I have grown to love it even more each year."

The cast includes Sierra Shields as Velveteen Rabbit, Stephanie Bolanos as the Girl, Catie Hein as Nana, Amy Sharer as Train, Emily Blake as Mouse, Nathaniel Brautigam as Skin Horse, and Amanda Barry, Sierra Bouchard, Isabelle Lopez and Lisa Willems as the Voices.

Supporting Blake with technical duties are Susie Hill as stage manager, Jeff Griffith as sound design and Mike Lieberman as house manager.
